The mechanics of repetition
Completing 108 mantra repetitions requires approximately 12 to 18 minutes depending on pace. This project uses the mala structure to develop unbroken concentration spans.
Students select three mantras from provided options: So Ham, Om Namah Shivaya, or Lokah Samastah. Each receives focused attention for two weeks before rotation.
The physical act of moving beads introduces tactile awareness that supports mental focus. Participants learn to coordinate finger movement with breath and sound in a unified rhythm.
Progression challenges
Initial sessions often reveal how quickly attention wanders. By tracking the bead number where distraction occurs, students identify their current concentration threshold.
Week four introduces the practice of multiple malas in single sittings. Graduating from one round to two or three requires mental stamina that develops gradually through consistent effort.
Assessment focuses on documentation quality, technique video demonstrations, and written reflection on the relationship between repetition count and meditative depth experienced throughout the program.
